ASEAN Chairmanship Side Events, "Electric Vehicle (EV) Conversion and Development of Bioenergy Market Potential in ASEAN," Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), ASEAN Ministry of Energy, Mineral Resources Republic of Indonesia (MEMR), ASEAN The Center for Energy (ACE) held ASEAN Chairmanship Side Events, "Electric Vehicle (EV) Conversion and Development of Bioenergy Market Potential in ASEAN," which took place at the Gedung Forum Teknologi, Lemigas, Jakarta, on October 4, 2023. Mr. Koji Hachiyama, ERIA's Chief Operating Officer (COO), opened the event, followed by H.E. Arifin Tasrif, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Indonesia, and Dr. Nuki Agya Utama, Executive Director of the ASEAN Center for Energy (ACE), who delivered the Keynote Speech. In Scene setting presentations, Mr. Senda Hurmuzan Kanam, the Head of the Survey and Testing Center For Electricity, New, Renewable Energy, And Energy Conservation of the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Conservation, MEMR Indonesia, said that motorbike users in Indonesia increase every year. In 2022, it reached 126.99 million users, or 83.27% of total motorized vehicles in Indonesia. The results of the Coordination Meeting Preparation for the Air Pollution Handling Meeting in Jabodetabek, one of the directions of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, is accelerating the program to convert fuel motorbikes to electricity. In 2023 the government will provide subsidy assistance for 50 thousand conversion motorbikes, then increase to 150 thousand in 2024. Mr. Senda also said that the stages of conversion of electric motorbikes through government assistance will be divided into three stages, namely the first wave (2021 – 2023), where the conversion of electric motorbikes is still at the unit and manual stage, the second wave (2023 – 2025) which is the mass conversion stage/ completely knock down (CKD) and the third wave (2025 – 2030) as the manufacturing and business stage, where an electric motor conversion ecosystem has been formed between component providers, a battery swap system, as well as a trade-in scheme for conversion motorbikes and new electric motorbikes./ HKSI
